Microbiological quality of indoor and outdoor swimming pools in Greece: investigation of the antibiotic resistance of the bacterial isolates.
During 1997-2005, the microbiological quality and susceptibility of bacterial isolates of swimming pool waters were investigated. A total of 462 water samples were collected from three indoor swimming pools (a teaching pool, a competition public pool, a hydrotherapy pool) and two outdoor swimming pools (a hotel semi-public and a residential private pool) in Northwestern Greece. All water sample...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance of clinical isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae in Greece.
The antibiotic susceptibilities of 1,002 Streptococcus pneumoniae clinical isolates from patients with community-acquired pneumonia were determined over an 18-month period. Resistance rates were 14% for penicillin, 20% for erythromycin, 26% for tetracycline, and 1% for chloramphenicol. Resistance to non-beta-lactam antibiotics was associated with penicillin resistance at statistically levels.
متن کاملThe challenges of antimicrobial drug resistance in Greece.
Antimicrobial drug resistance rates in Greece are among the highest in Europe. The prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative species has increased considerably, including endemic strains in intensive care units. Pandrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are sporadically reported. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin...
متن کاملStrongyle anthelmintic resistance in horses and cattle from Greece
Gastrointestinal nematode parasitism is an important cause of livestock disease, reduced productivity and welfare. In most cases, control of parasites is based on the use of anthelmintics or on the combination of anthelmintics and pasture management or recently, other alternatives to the use of chemicals. However, the frequent use of anthelmintics can select for resistant nematodes. Anthelminti...
متن کاملAn electronic network for the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial nosocomial isolates in Greece. The Greek Network for the Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance.
The present article reports an evaluation of the national electronic network for the continuous monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in Greece. The network employs a common electronic code and data format and uses WHONET software. Our four years' experience with the network confirms its practicality. A total of 22 hospitals in Greece are currently using the software, of which 19 participate i...
